Who should do this course?

Existing builders, construction supervisors, site managers, project managers who want to further their skills in medium rise construction. Members of the public who wish to gain qualifications in construction who have already completed a course in building (see entrance requirements). Western Australian residents who wish to complete most of the units required to meet the qualification requirements for registration as a builder. (Practical experience and other requirements are also required by the WA Builders Registration Board)

What does the course cover?

The course covers the skills necessary to manage a construction project/business in the residential or commercial sector.

Do I need access to the internet?

Participants will require access to a computer and the internet for some assessments and research.. This course is available on-line

What are the entry requirements?

Candidates who do not have industry experience must have completed a certificate III or higher qualification in any industry.

Candidates with a minimum of one years industry experience must have completed a certificate II or higher level from any training package or accredited course. Possess sufficient literacy, numeracy and visual interpretation skills to allow you to successfully complete the course. You will require to write a short composition as to why you want to complete this qualification. As well as a phone interview. Access to a computer and the internet for some of the resources are necessary

Recognition of prior learning/competencies

As a RTO we recognize that you may have skills and competencies that align with the learning criteria of this qualification. You need to speak with a trainer to obtain further details of the RPL process. If you have completed other units of competencies from another qualification, these may be used to provide you with credits for this qualification provided they align with the learning outcomes. Please call our office for further information.

What are the language and literacy skills required?

High level of mathematical skill equivalent to year 12. High command of English in relation to report writing. Contact our office for further information and assistance with meeting these requirements.

What are the career prospects?

Licensed builder to medium rise construction (subject to State and territory regulations), building consultant, construction manager, project manager.

Can I get recognition of my existing skills?

Yes. As a registered training organisation, we recognize prior qualifications and learning skills. Please contact us to discuss this option.

Does all the subjects you offer meet the qualification requirements for a builder in WA?

No. You will also need to complete two additional subjects

  • CPCCBC6001A Apply building codes and standards to the construction process for large building projects and
  • ICAITU130A Operate a spreadsheet application.

Can I go on to graduate to the Diploma after I have completed the program?

Yes. There are two additional subjects to complete as electives. Please see enrolment form for further information.

What other qualifications does the Diploma of Building and Construction lead to?

Advanced diploma in building and construction. Some universities will give credit towards a bachelor degree in construction. (you will need to contact the university for further details),

What are the time restrictions?

You can complete it one year, but must complete the course within three years. It is a self paced course with an approximate study time of 750 hours. (Participants who hold the certificate IV in building and construction will be able to complete in less hours)

What are the assessment requirements?

In order to complete the certificate, you need to complete projects and exercises and submit them for your assessment for each unit. Some units require a final exam. Participants will need to obtain the services of a person with qualifications as an assessor to supervise the exam.

How will the training be delivered?

Training is carried out in distance mode or online with participants issued with resources such as text based materials, DVDs and textbooks. You will need to carry out assessment tasks for each unit and have access to a computer

Do I need access to a workplace to complete this qualification?

Persons who do have access to a workplace will be guided to ensure that their assessments relate to their particular workplace. Those participants who are unemployed or who do not have access to a workplace will be provided with a hypothetical workplace by their trainer to complete their assessments, but they will need to visit a workplace to carry out some assessment tasks specifically BSBOHS504A requires access to a workplace. BITAD will provide assistance in finding you a suitable workplace to carry out your assessment. We will negotiate a workplace located near your home

How do I enroll?

Simply click here and download the enrolment form. After you submit the enrolment we will advise you within 3 days if you have been accepted. You then receive an statement confirmation within 7 days and your first two courses are sent out with 14 days.

What units do I need to complete?

To complete the program participants will be required to complete 15 core units and 3 electives (Choose only 1 should you wish to complete the Diploma of Building & Construction (Building)) from the following. Total hours aprox 650

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR CANDIDATES This program of study contains most of the units required to meet the qualification requirements as a licensed builder in Western Australia. You will also need to complete the following units in order to meet these requirements CPCCBC6001A Apply building codes and standards to the construction process for large building projects and ICAITU130A Operate a spreadsheet application. BITAD does not offer these units. For further information relating to builders registration in WA contact the Builders Registration Board at http://www.builders.wa.gov.au. Candidates will also need to purchase, or have access to, the Building Code of Australia. The cost of this is not included in the course fees.
