Who should do this course?

Existing carpentry construction workers who require their existing skills to be recognized within this qualification. Persons who may be considering entering into an apprenticeship in carpentry in the construction industry (you will need access to a construction workplace site in order to have most of the training and assessments tasks assessed on-site. Apprentices will need to be employed. RPL candidates will be required to provide a workplace to demonstrate practical skills).

What does the course cover?

The course covers the skills necessary to work on a construction site as a carpenter in the residential or commercial sector under supervision.

What units do I need to complete?

To complete this qualification participants will be required to complete 22 core units and 8 electives. Nominal training hours = 960

What are the entry requirements?

No formal entry requirements. However, you will require language and literacy skills outlined below.

What are the language and literacy skills required?

Medium level of mathematical skill equivalent to year 10. Medium to high command of English. Contact our office for further information and assistance with meeting these requirements

Recognition of prior learning/competencies

As a RTO we recognize that you may have skills and competencies that align with the learning criteria of this qualification. You need to speak with a trainer to obtain further details of the RPL process. If you have completed other units of competencies from another qualification, these may be used to provide you with credits for this qualification provided they align with the learning outcomes. Please call our office for further information.

What are the career prospects?

Graduates of the certificate III in carpentry will gain recognition as a qualified carpenter. This qualification can also lead to the certificate IV and diploma in building and construction. You may also be eligible for a contractors license as a carpenter depending on the requirements of the relevant licensing authority.

Can I get recognition of my existing skills?

Yes. As a registered training organisation, we recognize prior qualifications and learning skills. Please see top of page for full details

What other qualifications does the Certificate III in carpentry lead to?

Certificate IV in building and construction and/or diploma in building and construction

What are the time restrictions?

You must complete the course within three years. It is a self paced course with an approximate study time of 960 hours

What are the assessment requirements?

In order to complete the certificate, you need to complete short answer questions, case studies, final exams and completion of third party reports. You will also be required to be assessed at the workplace by a qualified industry assessor. You may need to obtain the services of a person with qualifications as an assessor, justice of the peace or professional to supervise the exam. This cost is not included in the course fees. Alternatively you may complete exams at our offices in Dee Why, Sydney.

Do I need access to a workplace to complete this qualification?

Yes. The practical subjects area require training and assessments to be done at the workplace such as a construction site.

How is this qualification facilitated?

The first six units are done in distance mode with the remaining units trained and assessed at the workplace. Once you are ready to be assessed at the workplace, a qualified assessor will attend to carry out the assessment as required
