Who should do this course?

Existing builders, construction supervisors, site managers, project managers who want to further their skills in medium rise construction. Members of the public who wish to gain qualifications in construction who have already completed a course in building (see entrance requirements)

What does the course cover?

The course covers the skills necessary to manage a construction project/business in the residential or commercial sector.

Do I need access to the internet?

Participants will require access to a computer and the internet for some assessments and research.

What are the entry requirements?

Candidates who do not have industry experience must have completed a certificate III or higher qualification in any industry.

Candidates with a minimum of one years industry experience must have completed a certificate II or higher level from any training package or accredited course. Possess sufficient literacy, numeracy and visual interpretation skills to allow you to successfully complete the course. You will require to write a short composition as to why you want to complete this qualification. As well as a phone interview. Access to a computer and the internet for some of the resources are necessary

Recognition of prior learning/competencies

As a RTO we recognize that you may have skills and competencies that align with the learning criteria of this qualification. You need to speak with a trainer to obtain further details of the RPL process. If you have completed other units of competencies from another qualification, these may be used to provide you with credits for this qualification provided they align with the learning outcomes. Please call our office for further information.

What are the language and literacy skills required?

High level of mathematical skill equivalent to year 12. High command of English in relation to report writing. Contact our office for further information and assistance with meeting these requirements.

What are the career prospects?

Licensed builder to medium rise construction (subject to State and territory regulations), building consultant, construction manager, project manager.

Can I get recognition of my existing skills?

Yes. As a registered training organisation, we recognize prior qualifications and learning skills. Please contact us to discuss this option.

What other qualifications does the Diploma of Building and Construction lead to?

Advanced diploma in building and construction. Some universities will give credit towards a bachelor degree in construction. (you will need to contact the university for further details).

What are the time restrictions?

You can complete it one year, but must complete the course within two years. It is a self paced course with an approximate study time of 750 hours. (Participants who hold the certificate IV in building and construction will be able to complete in less hours)

What are the assessment requirements?

In order to complete the certificate, you need to complete projects and exercises and submit them for your assessment for each unit. Some units require a final exam. Participants will need to obtain the services of a person with qualifications as an assessor to supervise the exam.

How will the training be delivered?

Training is carried out in distance mode or online with participants issued with resources such as text based materials, DVDs and textbooks. You will need to carry out assessment tasks for each unit and have access to a computer

Do I need access to a workplace to complete this qualification?

Persons who do have access to a workplace will be guided to ensure that their assessments relate to their particular workplace. Those participants who are unemployed or who do not have access to a workplace will be provided with a hypothetical workplace by their trainer to complete their assessments, but they will need to visit a workplace to carry out some assessment tasks specifically BSBOHS504A requires access to a workplace. BITAD will provide assistance in finding you a suitable workplace to carry out your assessment. We will negotiate a workplace located near your home

What units do I need to complete?

To complete the Diploma in Building and construction participants will be required to complete 6 core units and six elective from the following Total hours aprox 650.
